REQUIREMENTS TO BECOME A LEGIONNAIRE  

New Members

1. Complete American Legion Membership application by filling out our online application.

 

2. Proof of DD214 or Honorable Discharge

(Click for DD214 Discharge Application to request one from your records.)

IMPORTANT: EVERYONE MUST SHOW A COPY OF THEIR DD214 OR DISCHARGE.

(Member must have served at least one day of active military duty during the period listed and honorably discharged or still serving honorably.)
 

3. Membership Dues Payment.

Dues for the 2020/2021 Membership Year are set at $35.

When processing your online application, a credit/debit card will be needed to process your payment.
 

If the information you have provided is correct, membership will be approved, and a membership card will be mailed to you.

 

TRANSFERS

Veterans applying for transfer from another Post to 101 must submit the following:

Completed Member Data Form, proof of DD214 or honorable discharge, copy of your current Post membership card.

Membership dues for current year if not paid.

 

ELIGIBILITY DATES

Membership eligibility in the American Legion is based on honorable service with the U. S. Armed Forces between:

World War I (April 6, 1917 -November 11, 1918)

U.S. Merchant Marine (December 7, 1941 to December 31, 1946 WWII)

(December 7, 1941-Today*)

World War II
Korean War
Vietnam War
Lebanon/Grenada
Operation Just Cause
Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm

Iraq

Afghanistan
 

*Because eligibility dates remain open, all members of the U.S. Armed Forces are eligible to join The American Legion at this time, until the date of the end of hostilities as determined by the government of the United States.
